Description

Many supply chain teams are stretched thin, and employees often feel unsure about how to grow in their roles or what skills they should build next. Leaders may want to support development but struggle to find time, structure, or simple ways to coach people in the flow of daily work. This session looks at why career growth can stall in busy supply chain environments and how small, consistent actions from leaders can make a big difference.

A UWEBC member panel of leaders, including David Watkins, Director of Supply Chain Management at Alliant Energy, will share how they prepare their teams for next-level leadership, including exposing them to stretch projects, discussing communcation styles, and intentional recognition.

In breakout groups, participants will discuss approaches such as:

  • creating clear skill expectations

  • using short check-ins to discuss progress

  • pairing employees for peer learning

  • turning everyday tasks into development opportunities

Whether your team is building a talent pipeline or just trying to keep employees engaged and growing, this session will offer realistic steps for supporting career development and help employees grow even when resources and time are limited.
